Awareness is rising about the chemical imbalance-myth, told to patients before their first prescription of antidepressants and antipsychotics.
And still is in circulation.
A harmful false story, implicating there is somthing wrong with your brains which can be correct with medication.
Of course patients have their personal reasons to start with psychotropic medication, but to justify this choice is not neccassary nor okay to
tell something that is not true.
Consequences:
‘ Research shows that people who believe depression stems from a chemical imbalance are more likely to start antidepressants, less prepared to stop them when no longer helpful, and feel more disempowered about their ability to improve their mood naturally.’

Regarding tapering off:
• Why would you continue searching for another cause?
• Why would you seek therapy if you have resolved the chemical imbalance?
• Why would you want to discontinue medication if you require the chemical?
• If tapering off fails, “you definitely need the chemical”.
